Rapt Media Tapped to Create Groundbreaking, Immersive Experiences for Viewers

BOULDER, Colo. - Dec. 23, 2015 - Rapt Media, a leader in groundbreaking interactive video technology, has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures to promote its upcoming film release “Point Break” by creating a series of interactive video experiences that experiment with a never before used 3D content solution to drive viewer engagement to new heights. “Snowboarding Action,” an interactive snowboarding experience that enables viewers to explore one of the world’s most dangerous mountains in 3D, is just one of many interactive video experiences created by Warner Bros. to promote the film.

“This movie is about pushing physical limits, about going beyond what is perceived as possible, and we wanted to do that with how we engage our audience when promoting the film,” said Warner Bros. VP of Digital Marketing Jessica Thurber.

Warner Bros.’ reimagining of the iconic “Point Break” film is a fast-paced, high-adrenaline action thriller featuring a young FBI agent who infiltrates a cunning team of thrill-seeking elite athletes suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes in unusual ways. The action adventure’s feats are performed by best-in-class athletes representing everything from motocross to wingsuit flying to big mountain snowboarding and more.

Using satellite imagery, topo maps, and custom 3D models integrated with data in the video to augment the video content and provide insight into the athletes, stunts, and shoots, Rapt Media helped Warner Bros. create one-of-a-kind digital experiences that allow viewers to immerse themselves in the extreme sports and behind-the-scenes footage. Rapt Media’s technology was used to illustrate the complexity and danger of the stunts, and the power of WebGL allowed them to perform complex 3D rendering inside the browser — something that has not been done before.

“There is some really exciting stuff happening in terms of 3D content in your browser, as well as with interactive video technology’s ability to respond seamlessly to viewer interactions, and we thought this was a great chance to challenge convention and show the world a new way to make video more engaging,” said Rapt Media CEO and Co-Founder Erika Trautman. “This experience gives viewers the unique ability to interact with and manipulate 3D models in real time in the video, which we see as groundbreaking on its own. Add in the fact that the entire experience works instantly on any browser on any device without an app, and that makes it a revolutionary new way for brands and their audiences to connect.”

“Point Break” is scheduled to be released in 2D and 3D on December 25, 2015.
